|
|
Hi guys,
I've made a few attempts (with help from Dave) in the past to get a WizWar server running on wizwar.com, but always ran into some strange issues. These issues are very difficult to debug remotely, so I'm running a temporary server on my computer to test it out.
To connect to the server you'll need to get the latest version of the software (0.94) at http://www.wizwar.com/ol and connect to IP address 76.254.50.173, port 5050.
A few things to note:
A. My IP is not static, so the address may change at some point in the future. I'll try to check it once a day and post an update here if it changes.
B. I have a reasonably fast DSL connection, but it's still DSL, so if too many people log in it may get slow.
C. My computer has a tendency to randomly crash every few days, so don't expect a super stable server here.
Please let me know any feedback and bug/crash reports at mdaneman@sbcglobal.net.
Thanks a lot,
-Mike.

The server crashed (thanks to Ness and cparcel I think ) I fixed the bug and the server is back up now, running at the same IP address. Please continue to abuse it. |

| Server was crashed once again by me and Ness. (Ness, sorry we didn't get very far in our game). I'll check the reason for the crash when I get home tonight and restart the server. |

Not a problem man, we're just trying to help you get the kinks ironed out.
I think that C and I are planning on hitting your server later tonight (probably after 9 EST) to try and break it again
Just had the game crash on me while playing 5-player solo hotseat. I'm going to paste the error report into your original program thread.

Glad to hear you're coming back for more. However, it's unlikely the server will by up by 9pm EST, since I'm in PST and won't be home until 7-8pm my time. I'll definitely have it up by my 10pm or so (which may be a bit late for you). |

| The server is now running version 0.95. You'll need to download v0.95 to be able to log on to it. |

| Okay. Downloaded it and ready to go. Now I just need someone to let me know what time (don't forget to specify the timezone) we meet each week to play. |

Hi Alienbrain,
Unfotunately I won't be able to make it this evening, but tentatively pencil me in for next Sunday evening.
Or possibly some weekday around 9pm. |

Hi guys,
I'm planning to be logged into my server tomorrow (Wed) around 12:30pm PST. If anyone wants to join me to help test out the server (and, barring crashes, play a game) is welcome to log on at the same time.
If no one else logs on, then I'll just play against myself (and cry a little). |

That'll be about 3:30 here on the Right Coast, so I should be able to hop in with you to play a round or three, as long as I remember to

I logged in at around 12:45pm and the server wasn't running. There was no crash or anything. It's possible that I spaced out and forgot to start it this morning.
The server is running now, so if anyone wants to log in you're welcome to. |

| It's 5:20pm PDT (or about 8pm EDT) and I'm logged into the test server just in case anyone's reading this... |

Posted: Fri Jul 31, 2009 7:17 pm Post subject: Game scheduling feature |
|
|
Well, the server seems to be getting more stable. I made a number of changes to make it less likely to crash and haven't seen a crash since Monday. Please keep logging in and stressing it (I would love to see a 4 or 5 player game going to really put the server through the paces - maybe I'll try to organize one sometime soon).
Anyway, I've been thinking of adding a scheduling feature to make it easier for people to hook up. The way it would work is that a player can log on and add an item to the schedule that says he will be back for a game at a specific date/time. Then when others log on they will know that there's likely to be another player on the server at that time and can come back then.
What do you think? Would a feature like that be useful? |
