To probably nobodies surprise, wizwar has been delayed till mid summer...
here it is straight from the horses mouth (sales@chessex)
| Quote: | Unfortunately, the release of Wiz War 8th edition has, yet
again, been postponed. Our current release date for this game is mid
summer. Keep an eye on our website for updates as we will post it on our
front page when the game is finally released!

Is it just me or does wizwar seem like an alias for duke nukem forever? |

Its delay does not surprise me.
I was talking to Roton recently, and he was telling me that he was'nt to happy with the art work on the 8th edition.
He seems to think that the whole 8th edition needs a complete re-work.

Well, since somebody else brought it up (so saying it won't be sabotaging the game) I think the artwork for 8th edition looks pretty amateurish, too.

| aside from the artwork, does anyone know anything else about 8th edition? like new spells or rulings? i'm really not even sure how "up to date" the set i play with is, as my friends bought it years before i started playing. |

If you go to Tom Jolly's site, and click on 'sneak peak' under the Wiz-War news heading you'll see some of the new cards of the up-and-coming 8th edition.
I personally can't make heads or tails of some of them.

Well, I said it way back when the umpteenth delay was announced, and I'll say it again. Not to show any disrespect to TJ, but I for one will not be buying the new edition of Wiz War.
First, as I stated in a different thread, I don't really like the artwork, and I also can not, in good conscience, support Chessex. I am perfectly happy with the 7th edition that I own. Also, seeing how Wiz War's greatest strength (in my opinion) is player customization, any enhancements or modifications that I would want I can do myself. I respect Tom Jolly's continuing work on a truly great game, but I'm saddened by the fact that a lame-o company like Chessex is the one who has to distribute it. Maybe if get the chance to play somebody else's 8th edition I would change my mind, but as it stands now, I'm quite content to continue playing 7th edition. |

Damn - what is up with Chessex? What kind of special morons are in charge of releasing Wiz War? Don't they like making money?
Does anyone have any files that can be used to print the game up and play it?
I am sick of waiting. |

I have a friend who has files set up to print out all of the WizWar cards on nice card stock. It is, of course, based on 5th edition rules (the One True Edition) + the 1st and 2nd expansion sets. I bet it would be easy to convince him to make them available on wizwar.com, but of course it would require Tom Jolly's permission (and perhaps Chessex's as well).
"WizWar classic--print it yourself, $XX ShareWare to Tom Jolly at... If you like this game, you'll love the New and Improved and Infinitely More Fun 8th edition, available from Chessex sometime before your Grandchildren graduate from college..."
Ok, sorry, I couldn't resist a little good-natured jab at the lateness of the 8th edition; now, though, I need to say something in Chessex's defense. What's up with all of the Chessex bashing, anyway? Don't you realize how hard it is for a small game designer to get a game published? Has Chessex done anything wrong other than be late? Come on, people, this is a company who has been supporting WizWar since the 6th edition, and they're still going strong as far as I'm concerned. I don't think that WizWar has ever been a huge high-margin success; I really doubt that either Chessex or Tom Jolly is going to bankroll tons of loot off of the 8th edition, or any other edition for that matter, but WizWar is a great game, and it deserves our support. All hard-core WizWar fans should support Tom and Chessex, and go out and buy the 8th edition. Show your love! Make your presence felt! Those of you who cannot afford a dry place to sleep and warm food for dinner are excused; the rest, get out your budget sheets and pencil in an allowance for WizWar 8th edition in August. Maybe you'll need to buy a big eraser to keep up with the slips, but you have to appreciate Chessex for their perseverance; schedule slips are not free! |

Well said, Braniac!
For those interested in additional BLANK Wiz-War cards, I recommend emailing Tom Jolly to see if he has any to sell. Chessex may also have blanks. (I have bought Wiz-War blanks from my local gamestore [overpriced], and I have bought some from Jolly).
I still have about a 3-inch stack of Wiz-War blanks I haven't completely used up. In the spirit of world peace, fun & creativity, I'd be willing to give away 15 or so cards (for free) to anyone willing to send me a SASE.
Please request by email first, so that I can confirm and give you my mailing address. I don't want to get more orders than I can fill! (I don't think I will...but who knows?)
I'll repeat this in a separate post.

Come on. THey may be the nicest guys in all the world, but I don't care. Business is business. If you want to make money, release the damned game.
I have no respect for people who can't get their s**t together. A good game does no one any good sitting on the shelf of the developer.
In my business,if I took that long to get anything done, I'd be broke.
Whoever runs Chessex is lazy or clueless or both. |

Anonymous,
If you don't respect your own opinion enough to sign your name to it, why should anyone else respect it?
